چکیده

n semi-active missile guidance, a high-power transmitter not collocated with the missile generates continuous wave or interrupted continuous wave illumination that is reflected from the target to the homing missile. Noise introduced into this illumination, which is reflected from rain, chaff, land, or sea clutter or is carried on spillover, can compete with the target return. The Navy has tasked APL to specify allowable illuminator AM/FM noise and to work with its contractors to design stable oscillators and noise test equipment to meet these noise requirements. This article focuses on the effects of noise on system performance, the specification of noise requirements, low-noise X-band sources, and test equipment used to measure noise.

Vibrotactile Identification of Signal-Processed Sounds from Environmental Events Presented by a Portable Vibrator: A Laboratory Study

Objectives: To evaluate different signal-processing algorithms for tactile identification of environmental sounds in a monitoring aid for the deafblind. Two men and three women, sensorineurally deaf or profoundly hearing impaired with experience of vibratory experiments, age 22-36 years. Methods: A closed set of 45 representative environmental sounds were processed using two transposing (TRH...

Improving the Tracking Error Signal Extraction in IR Seeker with Stationary Wagon Wheel Reticle over all Field of View

The accuracy of target position detection in IR seeker depends on the accuracy of tracking error signal (TES) extraction from seeker Field of View (FOV). The type of reticle inside the seeker determines the output modulation signal that carries the TES. In this paper, the stationary wagon wheel reticle is used, which makes the type of the output signal as FM modulation in the linear region of F...

High Quality, All-Digital RF Frequency Modulation Generation with the ADSP-2181 DSP and the AD9850 Direct Digital Synthesizer Application Note (AN-543)

FM modulators have been with us since the time of Major Edwin H. Armstrong (sometimes known as the father of FM) and his classic 1936 paper on the subject. He first put down on paper the fundamental concept of a fixed center frequency that is varied per a constant deviation ratio that is independent of the frequency of the modulating signal. FM became very popular because much of the noise gene...

A AM/FM Single Component Signal Reconstruction using a Nonsequential Time Segmentation and Polynomial Modeling

The problem of estimating nonstationary signals has been considered in many previous publications. In this paper we propose an alternative algorithm in order to accurately estimate AM/FM signals. Only single component signals are considered. We perform local polynomial modeling on short time segments using a nonsequential strategy. The degree of polynomial approximation is limited due to the sh...

AM-FM energy detection and separation in noise using multiband energy operators

This paper develops a multiband or wavelet approach for capturing the AM-FM components of modulated signals immersed in noise. The technique utilizes the recently-popularized nonlinear energy operator Y (s) = (S)'-ss to isolate the AM-FM energy, and an energy separation algorithm (ESA) to extract the instantaneous amplitudes and frequencies. It is demonstrated that the performance of the energy...
